LAST week, Ron Bates and James Martin of the Queanbeyan District Cricket Club donned the ACT colours and travelled to Hobart in order to compete in the National Over 60s Seniors Cricket Championship.
The ACT fielded two outfits in this years installment of the tournament, with Bates playing in division three and Martin playing in division one.
Both squads finished up in third place within their respective divisions, with Ron's team winning two of their four games, including an absolute nail-biter against NSW where the ACT managed to sneak the one last required run in off the final ball, racking up a score of 209 to NSW's 208.
"The whole ACT squad did great this year with the number of wins we secured and the number of players who played really well was also very pleasing to see," Bates said.
"Hobart was great, all of the facilities that we were provided with were great and it was a real credit to the organisers."
North v South
TWO of Queanbeyan's most promising young cricketers have booked themselves a ticket to the final match of the NSW Country Cricket Championships after their Southern/ACT squad breezed through its three games undefeated in Wagga Wagga last weekend.
Facing up against northern powerhouse Newcastle on Sunday, Dean Solway and Guy Gillespie are aiming to bring victory home to the south.
"It will be a really tough game," Solway said.
"Newcastle is a strong area, with a pretty big population and a great grade competition so they're dominant in terms of NSW country cricket"
Dean Solway and Guy Gillespie of Southern/ACT will take on Newcastle at the number one sports ground, Newcastle on Sunday, November 29 from 10am.
