QUEANBEYAN’S sole representative in the Junior State League grand finals bowed out last weekend after a domineering Tuggeranong muscled their way back into the highly competitive match.

After leading the game for the majority of the first two quarters and going into half-time with a four point lead, the valiant division six squad began to falter and Tuggeranong took advantage, opening up a shot-a-thon for their goal attack and eventual player of the series Grace Buckmaster.
Queanbeyan coach Mark Shepherd said that while his team had started strong, the opposing side took control of the game in the latter stages and subsequently secured a convincing victory.
“We were certainly in the game for the first two quarters, and then in the third quarter we dropped off a bit and that’s when they started to run off with it, I can’t really put a finger on why” he said.
“But Tuggeranong Netball Association are a terrific side and that is the second year that team has won the division, so they’re definitely on a roll.”
The final quarter ended with a score of 33 - 23 in Tuggeranong’s favour. Shepherd said that the Queanbeyan side had grown immensely as netballers over the course of the competition, with many of the girls looking to continue on playing with one another.
“I was disappointed in the result but I wasn’t at their efforts throughout the competition,” Shepherd said.
