The state funding will help establish 'Abbeyfield House' an assisted independent living house for seniors in Bungendore.
"Bungendore is a village of around 4,000 people and 40 kilometres out of Canberra and has historically had no aged care accommodation for its older residents," Member for Monaro John Barilaro said at the announcement on Thursday, October 1.
"As a result, these long term residents have been forced to leave their community in order to find suitable accommodation in Queanbeyan, Canberra or Goulburn.
"The funding...will provide support to help older residents live independently locally and ensure they can remain part of the community."
Member of the Legislative Council Bronnie Taylor helped petition for the funding support. She said the Abbeyfield House service would be an excellent addition to the Bungendore community.
"Bungendore's population increased by 40 per cent between 2006 and 2011," she said.
"There has been a constant demand for aged care housing in Bungendore, and the need is only going to grow.
"Abbeyfield House is a non-profit organisation with a record of providing excellent and dignified assisted independent living support for older people in smaller communities."
