Temperatures dropped to two degrees and a Bureau of Meteorology spokesperson confirmed there were reports of snow mixed with ice coming from Canberra Airport and a report of consistent snowfall in Bungendore from 12:30 to 1:30pm.
"In the past 15 years [2001-2015] there were four snow events," he said.
"In the past 30 years there have been 11 snow events, this one included. That's an average of about one every three years."
The spokesperson said exact measurements of the snowfall were not recorded, as often the weather was too warm for the snow to settle, however The Queanbeyan Age was given plenty of photographic evidence when there was a call out on Facebook.
"It was settling in suburban parts of Canberra," he said.
It will be sunny, blue skies for Queanbeyan across the weekend with no rain forecast, but we're looking to still have cooler nights with the possibility of light frost.
