A MAN has assaulted two Queanbeyan police officers after allegedly refusing to pay a taxi fare.

The officers were forced to use capsicum spray to restrain the 27-year-old man at a Crest Road property on Saturday, police said.
Police were called to the unit about 3.20am after reports the man had refused to pay a taxi fare for a trip from Canberra to Queanbeyan.
When police arrived they saw a man and woman arguing inside the home.
Monaro police say the man was violent and threatening the woman before he turned on the two officers and tried to fight them.
He was arrested and taken to Queanbeyan Police Station, where he was charged with assaulting police, resisting arrest and failing to pay a taxi fare.
He will appear in Queanbeyan Local Court on July 20.
Monaro Command crime manager, detective inspector Shane Box said the assault of police officers would not be tolerated and offenders would be charged.
"This is another example of someone who has total disregard for the police," he said.
"Police were trying to protect a female in the unit when this bloke thought it ok to assault them."
