Both local teams were undermanned and it showed.
The Blues went down to the Southcity Bulls, 20 to 16, and the Roos lost to the Wagga Kangaroos, 26 to 8.
Roos import, Ben Shulver said the match did not go to plan, but it was a good trial run for round one.
“It was only a trial game, we still have players to come,” he said.
“But I haven’t played since September, so it was good to get out onto the pitch and play again.”
Blues captain Marc Herbert is confident his team can perform better in their season opener against Gungahlin.
“(The carnival) didn’t go as well as I’d hoped,” he said.
“But it’s good to get the first one out of the way though, that’s what a trial’s for.”
