Canberra-based bay mare Sheezsingle took out her first ever race win in her second start at the Queanbeyan Racing Club on Tuesday, but her Queanbeyan connection may have been what got her over the line.

The four-year old happens to be the daughter of retired Queanbeyan horse Sheezvalue, who was trained by Queanbeyan trainer Myffy Rae, and took seven wins from 33 starts, and began her career at the prestigious Randwick Racecourse.
Current part-owner of Sheezsingle Frazer Roughton also had a share in Sheezvalue, and trainer Matthew Dale said there were nostalgic signs in Sheezsingle of her mother at Tuesday's race meet.
"Myffy Rae trained her mother, and so although Sheezsingle is with me and had never been to Queanbeyan [before Tuesday's races], there was still an affiliation to Queanbeyan," Dale said.
"Obviously her mother was one of the better horses trained out of here."
Dale was over the moon with Sheezsingle's first win, after he purchased her for $20,000 dollars at last year's Gold Coast Magic Millions, but a hind fetlock injury forced him to spell her for 80 weeks.
He was finally able to race her at Albury on September 30, where he said she "threw the race away" in finishing second, but he said the addition of winkers to decrease her rear vision got her.
"We had a bit of a gear change, and it straightened her up," Dale said.
