QUEANBEYAN Racing Club CEO Brendan Comyn is looking forward to a big Spring season for his club now the quiet winter season is over, and was happy with the support of its first racing meet of the season three weeks ago.

Seven races took place at the club on September 8, which made up the first meet there since mothers day some four months ago, and the races will return again on Monday.
The quiet winter period sparked frustration from much of Queanbeyan's horse racing community, who held a meeting with member for Monaro John Barilaro back in July to discuss ways for the club to become more viable again.
But Comyn said that scenario was common for racing clubs across NSW during the coldest months of the year, and was adamant the club was in for a lot more action between now and autumn next year.
"It's very exciting to have racing back in Queanbeyan as it had been a long time," Comyn said.
The last races day also featured the most female jockeys seen in Comyn's memory at Queanbeyan, with Claire Nutman, Claire Gee, Tara-Jane Mitchell, Deanne Panya, Tiffany Jeffries, Eleanor Webster, Natalie Lye, Chynna Marston, including the first five all featuring at once in race seven.
Trainers Trevor Sutherland, Kerry Parker, Mervyn Bennett, and Joe Cleary will be back on Monday after picking up wins three weeks ago, while fellow local trainers Neville Layt, Frank Cleary, and Canberra's Nick Olive have also nominated horses.
Monday's races will be followed by two meets in October and December, plus one in November, January, February, March, April and May.
"This year we've been granted much better race dates than recent years," said Comyn.
"We've got three public holiday, three Saturday and three Sunday meetings, so that will draw a lot more people."
