Queanbeyan Weddings: Dylan Arklay and Laura Miller

THERE is much to be said of the workplace and its ability to bring two people together to form a couple.

For Dylan Arklay and Laura Miller they were employed by rival car rental companies at Canberra Airport, the two would flirt from behind the counters.

One day, Dylan was talking to Laura's work colleague. The matchmaker took notice of his interest and set the two up on a blind date at the Queanbeyan Golf Club.

It must have gone well, because on the very same day he moved in with Laura and was introduced to her parents just four days later.

Fast forward five years and the couple became engaged. It would be another three years before they walked down the aisle.

They were married earlier this year on July 25, a date that coincided with Laura's 30th birthday. The couple wanted it to be an intimate affair so they invited 39 of their nearest and dearest to join them at the Sylvan Glen Country House in the Southern Highlands. Many joined the couple for a feast the night prior to the wedding and stayed for a recovery breakfast the morning after festivities.

Laura said she likes to do things differently and have a unique spin on things. The unofficial wedding theme was 'not really a traditional wedding'.

With that in mind, the bride went with a monochrome colour scheme and wore a black and white strapless, floor length wedding gown. She had a bouquet of red blooms which is her favourite colour. A special mention to the couple's French bulldog, Lulu who was part of the festivities.

Other touches included presenting guests at the reception with a 'warm welcome' of a scarf or pashmina, and a mug with hot chocolate spoons, marshmallows and cookies as their bonbonniere.

Entertainment included a magician (Majura Magic) to amuse guests throughout 'cocktail hour' and a photo booth (Mace Photo booths) for some fun snaps throughout the evening.

After, the weekend wedding, the bride and groom honeymooned in Samoa for a week before returning home to Queanbeyan.

They are enjoying married life and would like to fit in a bit more travel before starting a family.
