Both sides were forced to play through preliminary finals after losses last week, but the club still managed to clinch two emphatic victories to earn the right to play off for silverware in both competitions.
It will be the club’s first appearance on grand final day since 2007, the same year the club last won a mens premiership.
In State League 3, Queanbeyan pressed hard against an energetic University of Canberra outfit, and their weight of possession broke down the UC defence as they ran out winners 3-0.
Congested circle play resulted in two first half goals to inside forward Mark McCoy to open up a well-earned lead for Queanbeyan. Evan Roeterdink then scored after collecting a rebound from the UC goalkeeper midway through the second half to close the game down.
They will now play competition favourites Daramalan on Saturday afternoon.
Queanbeyan’s State League 4 side shrugged off the speed-bump of last week’s major semi final loss to ANU, as they cruised past Wests with a 3-1 win.
Queanbeyan never looked troubled after a strong first half effort in attack gave them enough of a buffer to ease into next week’s grand final. However some late incursions by the Wests attack gave the Queanbeyan defence plenty to do during the closing minutes, but they held firm enough to set up a rematch with ANU.
Both matches will be held at the National Hockey Centre in Lyneham on Saturday.
