QUEANBEYAN Netball Association head coach Rena Spears is looking forward to next year's ACT State League after her young side gave Tuggeranong a reality check to end their 2014 campaign.

While the local girls missed the finals this season in finishing sixth with just two wins, they scared the southern Canberra venture before they beat Belconnen in semi-final action two Friday's ago.
But for Spears season 2014 was about developing her young squad after they scored one extra win last year in finishing fourth and scraping into the finals.
After Queanbeyan also caused a major upset against 2013 champions Arawang back in round one, Spears praised the effort of her players.
"We probably played our best game on Friday night...everyone did their job and funnily enough in doing that, they got the win," said Spears after the Tuggeranong game.
Cassie Reid, Jen McGurgan and Emma Redmond were three junior development players amongst other youngsters that spent their season in division one of the Canberra competition who Spears believes will become more senior players next year as a consequence.
"This year was about replacing some experience we lost last year, so our girls will be much better prepared next season," said Spears.
Spears also believed her association has done enough this year to prepare teams for ACT divisions two and three, and this would expand the depth of players greatly to fill in first division absences in the future.
An eight game losing streak between wins ultimately cost Queanbeyan their season this year, and Spears said after the Arawang win they let themselves down at times.
Meanwhile Queanbeyan's open second division side finished third at the NSW State Championships in western Sydney during the Queen's birthday long weekend, while the under 17s division two side finished in 13th.
