THE Queanbeyan Whites have plenty of positives to take out of the first two weeks of the John I Dent Cup after coming away from the competition's two heavyweights with a win and a tight loss.

A Tuggeranong Vikings penalty goal was all that separated the Whites from the premiers of the last three seasons last Thursday night at Viking Park, while they easily dispatched the Canberra Royals by 21 points the week before.
It sets the Queanbeyan club up beautifully heading into the next two weeks of competition when they will take on the Uni-Norths Owls and Eastern Suburbs, which respectively finished last and second last in 2013.
Coach Adam Fahey said he was happy with most of his men's gameplay at the moment, and was confident they would be taking good form in the weeks ahead.
"We're only two weeks in and we've played the top two sides in round one and round two, and we took a lot of positives out of the game [against the Vikings]," he said.
"There's a lot of areas that we're happy with at the moment and it's just a case of making sure we improve and that we're better than what we were the week before."
Fahey said being drawn against the top two sides was a great incentive to his players in the pre-season in forcing them to bring out the best in their game right from the start.
But with the two heavy weight clashes now out of the way, he said his men would not be taking their foot off the gas, rather putting into practice what they have learnt about their own game since round one.
"We've learnt from round one that you never underestimate an opposition at a first grade level," he said.
"We got beaten by Easts last year at home, so we've definitely learnt our lesson there and we won't be letting that happen again."
