The Queanbeyan Library- which also administers the libraries in Braidwood and Bungendore- collectively holds some 80,000 books, 12,000 eBooks and around 27,000 members.
And with $116,680 in State funding allocated to the local library last week to fund the self-check stations, borrowing a book has never been easier.
Library manager Peter Conlon said the new self-check stations would be up and running towards the end of the year.
"It will provide a choice to library borrowers, so they can decide if they want to use the self-check kiosk or go to the library desk for assistance," Mr Conlon said.
"And particularly at busy times, it means that if they're in a rush they can go straight to the self-serve unit and borrow."
Local State member John Barilaro said the funding was a "significant investment" into local libraries.
"Public libraries play a vital role in our communities in helping to inspire and foster the abilities of young people through to lifelong learners," he said.
"These grants enable libraries to respond to the changing needs of their clients, through the creation of flexible public spaces, improving public IT services, and reaching out to communities both in the online environment and on-site through targeted events and programs."
Queanbeyan mayor Tim Overall welcomed the funding and said it brought the town to "the forefront of modern technology and library services."
