QUEANBEYAN High School Student Representative Council has been awarded the Service Group of the Year following a busy 12 months of fundraising.

During 2013, the group raised money for charities including the Cancer Council, Leukaemia Foundation, World Vision, Red Shield Appeal, Home in Queanbeyan, Breast Cancer Research and Blankets for Ethiopia.
SRC member Ty Phelps said one of the highlights was holding a 'Purple Day' to fundraise $1000 for one of their peers whose house had burnt down.
The Queanbeyan High School SRC is unique in that all students are invited to be part of the group rather than voted in. The most active students and teachers are recognised at a presentation at the end of the year.
The arrangement was instigated by SRC coordinator and teacher Michael Guilfoyle who has since left the school.
Mr Phelps said the loss of Mr Guilfoyle presented a challenge for the group but one he believed they can meet.
"Mr Guilfoyle was a big part of the SRC, he helped us a lot and really pushed us," the year 12 student said.
"It will be a big challenge without him but we have a new SRC coordinator who we're sure will fit in and keep up."
Mr Phelps said it was "awesome" to be recognised for their hard work.
"It makes us feel that people are really watching and appreciate what we do," he said.
"We're really making a difference."
