The 26-year-old purchased her two-bedroom apartment in 2010 and says she's now settled into Queanbeyan life, while also halving her commute to work.
"For me it was about affordability," Ms Stokes said.
"I wanted two bedrooms so I had space, and living in Queanbeyan I'm actually closer to work than when I was living in Canberra.
"I was looking for an apartment or a town house, mostly for practicality. I don't have the time to look after the yard or anything like that. It means my time's not spent doing lots of chores," she said.
Although she's planning on spending another couple of years in her apartment, Ms Stokes said she'd be very willing to stay in Queanbeyan when she eventually upgrades to a larger property.
"Queanbeyan's changing its reputation," she said.
"I think a lot of younger people are coming to Queanbeyan, and then they're staying in Queanbeyan. They're getting that foot in the door and they find it's not a bad place to live.
"My dad actually asked me when I look at purchasing something else, would I stay here or move back to Canberra. And I said I'm not picky about where I live- I'd happily stay in Queanbeyan. It just depends on what's on offer."
