A comprehensive approach

The local business purchased the adjoining Lowe Street premises directly behind it in 2011 and gained development approval the same year. Owners Neeraz Kumar and Dr Sonika Sharma told The Queanbeyan Age it was time to update the building and introduce some new facilities.

"We're doing a full-redevelopment of the building, with state-of-the-art infrastructure and modern equipment," Mr Kumar said.

"Everything here was set up in 1993, so we were after better, newer infrastructure and facilities. And there's no windows here at present, so it's just to update the practice and make it a nicer location."

The $800,000 refurbishment will also include dedicated client parking at the rear of the building as well as updated patient rooms.

Mr Kumar said the refurbishment, which includes a new $200,000 crown machine, was a case of investing back in the business to maintain a high level of service.

"People were sending their crown jobs overseas to China as a cost-cutting measure, but at the same time compromising the quality as well.

"So we've now acquired our own crown machine so we can compete with them, and produce high quality but affordable and international-standard crowns here on site."

Comprehensive Dental Care employs five dentists as well as hygienists and oral health therapists and administrative staff. It offers the full-range of dental services and caters to clients not just in Queanbeyan but in Canberra and across Southern NSW.

Mr Kumar and his wife Dr Sharma moved to Queanbeyan from Sydney in 2006 because it had a "country feel and there's no traffic to worry about." They said they were proud Queanbeyan residents, and were looking forward to opening their expanded practice to the public early next year.

"We love it here. We have a home here, and our young child is about to start kindy at Jerrabomberra Primary School," Mr Kumar said.
