The family of late Queanbeyan footballer Jay Lasscock has been struggling to pick up the pieces in the wake of his recent death.
Wife Samantha was left with a half-finished house following an extension to the property that Jay and his father Colin had been working on until Jay passed away in September.
Neighbours Donna Flack and Renee Smith have been busy contacting local businesses to help the family, aided by media coverage from the Age and The Canberra Times.
2CC Radio also ran an on-air fundraising drive which has resulted in funds and a cubby house being donated for Jay and Samantha's three young children.
Generous donations from Masters Home Improvement at Majura Park and Project Lighting Queanbeyan particularly stunned the Lasscock's neighbours as they approached local businesses for help.
"Masters donated a new kitchen, a new laundry and some building materials to finish the house, and Project Lighting donated all the electrical, which was fantastic," Mrs Flack said.
"I couldn't believe the generosity from Masters; it was unbelievable. I broke down and cried and the manager cried. It was an overwhelming experience. Masters and Project Lighting just blew us away."
Donations of services, supplies and/or funds have also been received from Chase Air-conditioning, In Rugs, Fantastic Furniture, Fast Glass, Spotlight, The Sleep Doctor, Advanced Decorative Concreting, Tec1 Electronics, Canberra Motorcycle Centre, South Coast Tree Services, Wattle Paints, J&B Canvas, Men of the League Foundation, Get Real Paint, Costco and Holcim Concrete.
"It's been a terrific response from the community," Mrs Flack said.
However there are still some outstanding jobs at the family home for tradesman or suppliers who wish to donate.
The family need gyprock for the back and front decks and to line the shed, colorbond fencing for one side of the house, plants and topsoil for landscaping, villaboard and blue board, linen, a dishwasher and labour from any carpenters who'd like to donate their time.
