Catchpole is the first Queanbeyan swimmer to qualify for the Australian Age Championships while representing his home club since Nino Bogojevic in 2004.
The 12-year-old earned his ticket to nationals after taking more than a second off his personal best time in the 100m breaststroke at last weekend’s Swimming ACT A-Level qualifying meet at the AIS.
Catchpole’s time of 1.17:45 was well inside the qualifying mark of 1.18:50. The Campbell High student will now turn his attention to posting a qualifying time for the 200m breaststroke where he is currently a second off the pace.
Catchpole will also be hoping to earn a spot on the NSW Development Squad following next January’s State Championships
Last weekend’s qualifying meet also saw Queanbeyan swimmers Nikola Trajkovski and Brad Rauter secure qualifying times for next February’s NSW Country Championships.
