Life jackets have been pulled from the shelves of popular camping stores after they were found to have faulty inflators.

The defective inflatable jackets were sold at stores including BCF, Anaconda, Marlin Australia, Life Jacket Solutions, Compleat Angler and Tackle World between June 14, 2021, and December 20, 2024.

The product recall notice said, "The indicator status on the inflator may show the life jacket is ready for use even when the attached gas cylinder is empty, removed, or not connected properly".

"The life jacket cannot inflate when this happens," it said.

The malfunction causes a "risk of drowning if the life jacket does not inflate as expected when the manual inflator is deployed", Product Safety Australia said.

The recalled inflators are marked '3F Single Point Manual Inflator V96000 Halkey Roberts ®' and were manufactured between June 4, 2021 and April 15, 2024.

They were installed in Life Jacket Solutions (LJS) with model numbers T150M, G150M, B150M, WB100, PR150M and SRSS150 as well as the Marlin model number MK150.

People using these inflators are urged to use an alternate life jacket and return the affected jacket to the place of purchase for a full refund.
