Be quick: surprise Qantas double credits offer to supercharge points

Frequent flyers could sign up to earn double status credits or double Qantas points until 11.59pm on October 31, 2024.

Members need to register via the Qantas app and they could book as many flights as they wanted until the offer closes for travel between November 1, 2024 and October 19, 2025.

All Qantas-operated flights across the regional, domestic and international network are included, not including Jetstar or other partner-operated flights.

Double status credits help members move between or maintain status tiers.

Each tier, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Platinum One, offers different travel benefits such as additional baggage allowance, priority boarding and lounge access.

Double status credits has historically been the most popular option for Qantas members during the deal period with 60 per cent of members choosing to fast-track their status during the most recent offer in February 2024 when participating members booked nearly 200,000 flights.

The double Qantas points option delivers members with a points boost, which could be used to book a Qantas Hotels stay, request flight upgrades, book rewards seats or make a purchase on Qantas Marketplace. Forty per cent of members chose this option in February.

Qantas Loyalty CEO Andrew Glance said the double status and double points reward offer was the most popular period on the Qantas loyalty calendar and members loved it.

Pointhacks.com.au senior writer Brandon Loo said Qantas' Double Status Credits or Points offer is one of their reader's most-anticipated deals of the year by the airline.

"Savvy frequent flyers will usually wait for a Double Status Credits offer and then book as much forward travel as they can to take advantage of this deal, as it can help them reach their status goals much sooner," he said.

In other good news for Qantas members, the carrier is expanding its frequent flyer program with 20 million reward seats across a 12-month period.

Classic Plus Flight Rewards, which were previously only available to Qantas international destinations, will extend to domestic and regional destinations from December 12, 2024.

Qantas said over 25 billion points had been redeemed on international flights since the Classic Plus Flight Rewards launched on the international network in July.

Qantas Group CEO Vanessa Hudson said: "Adding Classic Plus to domestic flights means frequent flyers will have more options to fly where they want, when they want, using their points which we know is an important part of rewarding them for their loyalty."

The offer comes as hundreds of Qantas engineers hold rolling strikes across the country, fighting for higher pay and better working conditions.

Qantas is handing out $1000 "thank you" payments to 27,000 of its employees as it hopes to defuse industrial action by some of its engineers, according to AAP.

The carrier also upgraded its food offerings recently, adding 70 new menu items including triple choc brownie cookies and a smoked salmon bagel on board.
