The review also found that highly-priced, premium chocolate chip cookies failed to rate.

CHOICE experts tasted 22 chocolate chip cookies from the major supermarkets.
Coles Bakery Dreams Crumb True New York Choc Chip Cookies ($1.83 per 100g) came in at number one.

It scored 78 per cent on the CHOICE expert rating, with a sensory score of 83 per cent.
"Quite crunchy with a little bit of a chew in the centre," read the review. "Nice semi-sweet chocolate lifts an otherwise average cookie."
Coles also bagged the number two spot with their Coles Ultimate Cookies 40% Chocolate Chip.
It had an expert rating of 77 per cent and a sensory score of 84 per cent.

Priced slightly cheaper ($1.25 per 100g) it was described as a "great rustic cookie with plenty of choc chips" as well as "visually appealing".
It wasn't all positive though criticised for having "poor mouthfeel due to fat lining the palette".
Woolworths Bakery Chocolate Chunk Cookie, which is baked in-store, nabbed the third spot.
It scored 75 per cent on the expert rating and 82 per cent on the sensory score.
Priced at $1.77 per 100g, it was praised for being "not overly sweet, a soft cookie, nice flavour".

CHOICE editorial director Mark Serrels said the top three beat some of the more premium options "proving that price does not always equal performance".
