The severe thunderstorms are forecast for Queensland's south-east, eastern NSW, Victoria and Tasmania.
The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting a risk of heavy rainfall which could lead to flash flooding.
Meanwhile, NSW and Queensland are bracing for possible large hail and damaging winds.
"Being the first day of the Easter long weekend, there will be a number of travellers or campers [who] may be impacted," the Bureau's senior meteorologist Sarah Scully said.
"It's important that you stay up-to-date with the latest forecasts and warnings.
"If you're relying on your [weather] app, make sure you change your location so you receive the warnings for your new location."
Rain expected across the long weekend
Cold and wet conditions are expected to continue across the Easter long weekend.

Showers are expected in southern parts of NSW, Victoria and Tasmania into Easter Sunday.
It's also expected to be much cooler than usual and snowfall is possible in alpine areas on Saturday night and Sunday, BoM said.
