Operational Plan 2019-20 adopted: The council has adopted the Operational Plan 2019-20, which incorporates $140 million of capital works across the local government area. This includes stage 1 of the Regional Sports Complex, stage 1 of the Bungendore Sports Hub, development of an off-street car park in Bungendore and intersection improvements on Uriarra Road in Queanbeyan. During the public exhibition of the plan, we received 34 submissions. As a result of the submissions a number of projects were added, including vegetation management on Araluen Mountain Road, a public toilet facility in Nerriga, a water tap at the High Street off-lead dog park and a facility assessment of all of our pools to provide us with a clear understanding of what improvements are required.
Braidwood Archaeological Management Plan: The council received funding from the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage to prepare an Archaeological Management Plan (AMP) for Braidwood. After initial community consultation and research in 2018 and then consultation on a draft document in early 2019, the council has adopted the first stage of the AMP. The first stage included a review of source material along with historical research including maps and plans, mapping the town with recommendations for archaeological assessment, an updated inventory of items with heritage significance and recommendations for future work. Future stages are dependent on funding and involve more detailed recommendations and linkages to the Braidwood Development Control Plan.
Grant for bridge renewal: The council has accepted a grant of $1.1m from the Australian Government to match council's funding towards the replacement of Reedy Creek Bridge on Mayfield Road, Braidwood and Gidleigh Bridge on Gidleigh Lane, Bungendore under Round 4 of the Bridges Renewal program. The single lane timber bridges will be replaced with easy-to-maintain two lane concrete structures.
Captains Flat Men's Shed and new Queanbeyan preschool: The council has agreed to enter into a five-year Licence Agreement with the Captains Flat Men's Shed Group for the use of the former fire station in Captains Flat. There are some repairs and renovations required on the building and the agreement is subject to sourcing funding to undertake these essential repairs. The council will also enter into an 11-year lease with the Queanbeyan and District Pre-School Association for the use of a site on Hoover Road in Queanbeyan West for a new pre-school.
