The works will be isolated to Monaro St, between Crawford and Lowe Streets, and Blacksmiths Lane will be closed.
Council said on their Facebook page, the work would “cause some disruptions to pedestrians and motorists.”
Essential Energy Regional Manager Southern, Steven Ilitch, said they are improving power supply and reliability for the CBD.
“The project involves replacing 130 metres of ageing, underground cable with a new low voltage distribution mains cable and installing three new electrical switching pillars.
“The new switching pillars will enable Essential Energy to isolate sections of the electricity network and re-direct the power supply when necessary, including during unplanned power outages.”
Trenches will be dug along the affected streets and temporary closure of on-street parking is likely.
“A section of footpath pavers in Monaro Street will be removed to facilitate the installation of the new switching pillars.
“The work will be competed in small sections to minimise the impact to pedestrians,” Mr Ilitch said.
