A selection of panels were unveiled recently to show the city’s rich bus history from 1900 to the present day.
The Quodlings started their bus company in the early days of the nation’s capital being established.
“In 1929 Bruce and Norman Quodling came into the Queanbeyan district and both drove buses for Mrs Barton and Mr Dawson [bus operators at the time] respectively,” said family member Tony Quadling.
The Quodlings took over the bus services running between Canberra and Queanbeyan in 1935.
After several company ownership changes, Dean’s buses came into being, which still run today.
Attending the unveiling of the historical display were members of the Quodling family who are still alive today and Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council administrator, Tim Overall.
“Transportation via bus has been a major part of life in Queanbeyan for more than a century and its importance continues today,” Mr Overall said.
“Following the opening of the Queanbeyan Bus Interchange, the former Queanbeyan City Council resolved to install some historic signage to commemorate the significant role bus transport has played in the history of Queanbeyan.”
