The National Disability Insurance Scheme was originally passed in parliament during the Gillard years but is only now coming into effect after years of assessment and planning.
By June 30 2019, the NDIS in Queanbeyan and surrounding district of Southern New South Wales will provide support for 4100 people with a disability.
A National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) spokeswoman said the scheme provides people under the age of 65 with a permanent and significant disability with supports they need to live an ordinary life.
While NDIS services have been available in the ACT since July 2014, Queanbeyan residents were unable to access those services across the border.
But from July 1, those wanting to access NDIS services can now visit the ACT office, as well as offices in Bega and Batemans Bay.
