A cautionary tale has arisen for local motorists, following a close call on the Captains Flat Road two weeks ago. Captains Flat resident Claire Hooker and her young daughter were heading to Queanbeyan on a grocery expedition on Friday, June 17, when they came around a bend and were faced with another car driving along the centre of the road.

“I’ve gone to swerve away but because of the weather it has been quite wet,” Ms Hooker said.
“So when I tried to straighten the car back up, the car spun, lost control, flipped about four times and hit a ditch on the other side of the road.
“It was pretty nasty.”
Potholes are a frequent result of heavy rain and the Captain’s Flat mother believes this could be the motive behind drivers straying from their lanes.
“People do it all the time and the road itself is quite bad,” she said.
“Parts of the road have been fixed up, but it’s been an issue.
“There have been so many problems on that road.”
