Boyle is the daughter of former Raider David Boyle, the sister of Gold Coast Titans player Morgan and the niece of Green Machine legend Jason Croker.

But after growing up around rugby league, she has opted to pursue her goals in rugby union to be part of the ACT side at the women's national championships in Sydney.

"All the boys give me some advice and tell me what to improve on. It's great to have that help, even in another sport. But the only time I hear from [Morgan] is when I do something wrong. So if he's quiet then it's all good," Millie joked.

"Rugby union was the only thing available at high school football wise, and when I was in year 9 I got asked to be a part of the Brumbies schoolgirls team.

"So I did that and it kicked things off. This is my first year in the women's team. The family was all for it, I've met some great people along the way."

The ACT women's side started its national championship campaign at Riverview on Friday, beating South Australia 24-0 in  their opener and trouncing NSW Country 22-0 in the second game.

The side returns to the field for a clash against Queensland on Saturday before the finals on Sunday.

Boyle is a 18-year-old flanker who drives four hours to Canberra from her home at Bermagui for club training with Royals.

On the occasions it's too much travel for her to handle, she crashes on the couch at the home of Raiders games record-holder Croker and his family.

"She's a trooper – she's fit and strong and has a good build for her position in rugby, hopefully she goes good," Croker said.

"She's put a lot of work, time and effort into it so her selection is warranted."

David Boyle played 117 games for the Raiders in the 1990s alongside some of the club's greatest players. He almost died after a farm accident in 2010 left him unconscious for about six hours alone in a paddock on the family farm.

He spent four months in the brain injury rehabilitation unit at Liverpool Hospital and the accident is a reminder to Millie, Morgan and their three sisters to make the most of their opportunities in life.

Morgan was in the junior Raiders system before moving his career to the Gold Coast while Millie is finishing her year 12 studies while juggling her rugby ambitions.

"The accident was a massive thing that happened to our family but we've worked through it all," Millie said.

"I think I was 12 when it happened so it went over my head a little bit. But it's still a big factor even now.

"Absolutely it makes you realise how lucky you are and that dad is still here. Dad tries to get to most games but he can't make it this weekend. He was a quiet achiever [in his career], I like that about him."

Meanwhile, the Tuggeranong Vikings will attempt to all but lock up the John I Dent Cup minor premiership when they play the Gungahlin Eagles on Saturday.

Wests are fighting to stay alive in the finals race but need to beat the Queanbeyan Whites at Jamison Oval to be any chance of earning a top four spot.
