The festivities commenced at 11am as Classique Hair Designs of Queanbeyan stylists Tegan and Dani readied their clippers and took to the manes of three students and five staff members, raising more than $2,000 in the process.

Year 9 student Trent McGee and Mr Andrew Flint were the first to lose their locks as a chorus of cheers erupted from the QHS cohort. The pair were followed by sisters Jessica and Tiana Hall, who managed to raise more than $300 for the cause alone. Jessica not only went bald for the occasion, but chose to also donate her long hair.

Mr Mike Frakes, Mr Brent Budden, and Mr Leo Pepingco were the next to go under the clippers, before a particularly chuffed crowd clapped on its deputy principal Safija Briftina as her hair fell to the hall floor.

Student Representative Council coordinator Amanda Flint said the World’s Greatest Shave fundraiser was the unanimous choice of the student body when looking for a way to contribute to charity, citing the widespread impact cancer has had upon the community.

“The SRC had to choose a community event they could be apart of, one they feel they have been touched by,” she said.

“And there were quite a few kids who put out their experiences - with not only leukemia but cancer on a whole - they all wanted to do something towards it.”
