A post appeared on the Cape Town Rock and Surf Fishing Facebook page in mid-June depicting the 60-kilogram fish reeled in by Renier.
Photos show Renier struggling to hold up a fish that matches him for height and the post has been shared nearly 7000 times and attracted more than 4000 comments.
The phenomenal catch came at Mossel Bay, in the Southern Cape area.
Shown a photo of Renier's haul, Radio 6PR Boat, Dive and Fishing Show host and Recfishwest ambassador Karl Langdon said it was the biggest mulloway he'd ever seen.
"The big ones we get in the river here are 15 to 20 kilograms. That thing is absolutely massive," Langdon said.
Mulloway are commonly known as dusky kob in South Africa and reportedly can grow as big as two metres in length.
Recfishwest says in WA they can be found from the Exmouth Gulf in the north to the South Australian border in the south.
Mulloway inhabit tidal rivers, estuaries and surf beaches, reefs and rocky headlands of inshore waters although they can be found offshore at depths of more than 100 metres.
Most of the mulloway caught in WA range between three and 15 kilograms.
