A man, who was found bleeding from a head wound in the middle of a street on Sydney's lower north shore, told police he had been assaulted.

The man, 56, was discovered conscious on West Street, Crows Nest, just before 11pm on Thursday.
Initial reports suggested he had been stabbed in the head.
He was treated by paramedics before being taken to Royal North Shore Hospital with a non-life threatening injury.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
