The Australian Drug Foundation’s Good Sports Program will be holding a free public forum on Good Nutrition for Active Kids at Riverside Clubhouse, 16 Carinya Street, between 6.12pm and 7.45pm. The forum will provide information on the obesity issue in Australia, ideas for healthy meals, drinks and snacks, and the good, the bad, and the ugly of sports drinks, sports foods and supplements. A Brumbies player will also be present to talk about their own personal experiences with nutrition and the fundamental link it has to sports performance. The Queanbeyan Cancer Support Group will hold the Spot Your Relly art exhibition on the Googong Foreshore between 12.30pm and 3.30pm. A celebration of Joan A Holt, who painted hundreds of portraits of a number of largely unidentified Canberra residents, the exhibition is a chance for you to see if you can in fact, ‘Spot a Relly’. It is also being held in honour of Holt’s battle with bowel cancer, and for all Australians dealing with cancer in general. Local firefighters are encouraging the community to visit the Queanbeyan Fire Station between 10am and 2pm for the Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) annual Fire Station Open Day. A range of free activities will be on offer, including firefighting demonstrations, station tours and fire safety presentations. FRNSW has also partnered with LEGO City to spread the fire safety message, and the partnership will see a new Brigade Kids activity booklet and LEGO City minifigures available for Open Day visitors. A Getting Ready Together gathering to prepare Aboriginal people with disability, their families and carers for the introduction of the NDIS will be held at the Coachhouse Marina Resort in Batemans Bay. The gathering will feature key presenters from the National Disability Insurance Agency and Ageing Disability and Home Care Service. There will also be practical workshops on support planning, self managing funds, path planning and NDIS terms and languages.
