The 420 kilometre journey to Dubbo did nothing to quell the winning spirit of the Queanbeyan Yowies, who defeated the city’s basketball squad 74-56 in a comfortable fashion in round six of the NSW Waratah League on Saturday, April 9.

Yowies leader Jono Miller contributed 13 points to his squad’s total and spoke of the continuing improvements being made in a young, yet talented side.
“We were trying to get some of our kids some game time, get some experience under their legs, and they really showed a lot of heart,” he said.
The win came at the right time for the Yowies as they come off the back of three losses and Miller cited their next match against Bathurst as an opportunity to begin turning the team’s fortunes around.
“This weekend will be a good test to see where we’re at because we still have a record under .500, we’re two and three so we really want to push for those final spots because the top three teams go to finals,” he said.
“We have to start winning games.”
