After 10 minutes of hail, the SES received 159 calls for help.

The "supercell" storm which hit about 5pm on Thursday brought with it huge hailstones which damaged cars, homes and trees across the city.

Queanbeyan SES teams were joined by volunteers from ACT, Bungendore, Yass and Captains Flat.

The SES volunteers worked into the early hours of the morning helping residents, but as of 10am on Friday still had 60 jobs to attend.

"We're just asking Queanbeyan to be a little bit patient today as we deal with the results of last night's storm," SES public officer Brent Hunter said.

"As you can imagine we're quite busy, and we are working through it as quickly as possible.

"We are asking people if they don't need our help anymore to call back on 132 500 and advise that, so we can focus on those who still do need our help."

Many of the volunteers have taken Friday off work to help the community after the storm.

The SES are warning they still have more than 60 jobs to complete today which could run into the weekend. 

"I'm only still young but I haven't seen anything like that hailstorm in Queanbeyan, ever," Mr Hunter said.
