First broached at a sports committee meeting for Queanbeyan City Council in July last year, the expo has been a work in progress for the past 12 months, with the Queanbeyan Netball Association spearheading the organisation of the event. QNA's Kelly Lolesio said that the Sports Expo hoped to boost the number of young athletes participating in sport across the full spectrum of Queanbeyan's athletic landscape.
"It's the first time it has been held and the main aim is to increase numbers for sporting clubs in Queanbeyan who don't have means for advertising or are non-profit organisations, where we can only advertise where there is free space, like Facebook and things like that, and sometimes that doesn't reach everybody," Lolesio said.
"So our aim is to hold an expo and get people down there to have a look at what options are available, and to provide some information about what sports are available in Queanbeyan."
The 2016 Sports Expo will be held on Saturday, February 20 in Queanbeyan Town Park.
