A spokesman for the Queanbeyan City Council said workers marked the news lines on December 7, but there were some initial errors.
The problems initially identified were lines marked too close to the kerb, which resulted in not enough room for vehicles to reverse out of their driveway, and poor sight distance to oncoming vehicles. On December 22, amendments were made to correct the identified mistakes.
However, residents in neighbouring streets are worried about safety if the current markings stay the same.
A man, who asked not to be named, said the new road markings were dangerous.
"[They] have made this piece of roadway now unsafe to such an extent that my family actively completely avoids driving this section of roadway for fear of becoming involved in a crash," he said.
He said the poorly designed road markings, bad lane angles and blind bends, as well as poorly dedicated parking areas and cyclist lanes were all problematic.
"Perhaps worse, the new road markings actually create dangerous situations that forces unsafe vehicle movements."
He implored the council to immediately review the new road markings and "take urgent action to modify them before a serious crash or injury occurs".
"Should a crash occur along this roadway, I will happily provide evidence in support of a negligence or liability claim against the Queanbeyan City Council for its unsafe road markings design," he said.
A spokesman for council said the aim of the new line markings was to "provide a safer environment for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists".
"Previously when no linemarking was in place, vehicles were observed cutting corners and drifting from one side to the other as they drove along Bicentennial Drive. The linemarking clearly identifies vehicle and bicycle lanes and assists in controlling the speed of drivers in the 50km/h zone," the spokesman said.
While the council quoted statistics like the number of accidents which have occurred on Bicentennial Drive (11, of which four resulted in injury), the Jerrabomberra resident said he had observed more near misses and vehicles being forced to brake hard to avoid potential collisions due to the road markings.
On one evening, he said in a 15-minute timeframe he witnessed four seperate incidents.
The spokesman for Queanbeyan City Council said a review of the effectiveness of the linemarking scheme in that area will coincide with the resealing of the western section of the road.
