Although she doesn't know what to expect come April when the championships will be held, Hopkins is excited to represent her country for the first time and sticks to a dedicated training schedule, focussing solely upon her athletic development.
"I used to play a bit of netball, but I was told to focus on my athletics," she said.
"I train mostly in longer distances with 1500 metres to three kilometres being the usual, but I also like the 800 metres."
Receiving the green and gold of the Australian uniform was a valuable experience for the year 11 Karabar student, who hopes to pursue a career in athletics in the future.
"It's good, I have always wanted a uniform like that," Hopkins said.
