The exhibition, to be displayed at the Queanbeyan Performing Art Centre, comprises more than 100 artworks by local artists who have experienced mental illness.
The artworks include paintings, drawings, poems, prose and photography based on the theme of "Value Your Mind".
Queanbeyan man Robert Bowman, 51 is one of the exhibiting artists. He has a range of paintings and prints on show.
Mr Bowman suffers from schizophrenia and said his artworks allow him to express himself and preserve memories.
"My art is an expression of what I think, how I feel. It's about memories, I like my memories, my collection of memories. It's a presentation of myself to the outside world," he said.
"I quite enjoy having my work on display because I don't often exhibit. This is quite public for me but enjoyable. I'm nervous because I wonder about what people will think and say."
Richmond PRA team leader Liz Webb said the goal of the exhibition was to promote the creativity and talents of those living with mental illnesses.
"This exhibition showcases what local residents can do and achieve. It's about supporting people with mental illness. I think it's really important to have that awareness," she said.
"All the artworks are very unique, reflecting the individuality of the artist. It's amazing the calibre of artworks we have on display."
The "Value Your Mind" exhibition will be officially opened on Monday, October 12 with guest speaker Frank Quinlan, CEO of Mental Health Australia. It will be on display until October 24.
