An English man has been called out in front of a cast of thousands after a picture of him cheating on his girlfriend surfaced on Facebook.

The man, known only as Matt from Wythenshawe (a district in the south of Manchester), was found out when a woman he had met in a nightclub posted his picture to Facebook after realising she was unable to contact him, Unilad reports.

"Met this guy last night absolutely stunning," Facebook user Pippa wrote on her personal page.

"Took his number down wrong but would love to get to see him again!"

Adding that all she knew about him was that his name was Matt and he lived in Wythenshawe, Pippa asked if anyone would be able to help put them in contact.

The Facebook post, which had its privacy settings set to "public", was shared by Pippa's friends.

"Imagine when he sees it and all the effort you've gone to find him," one fan of the potential couple wrote.

However, not everyone was so sure this was a good idea.

"You sure he didn't give you the wrong number on purpose, Pip?" another friend wrote.

Unfortunately, that turned out to be quite a likely explanation for Matt's phantom phone number.

The man's plan came unstuck when the plea for Matt's identity was shared into the Facebook feed of one of his girlfriend's friends, who tagged her in the comments.

While Matt's girlfriend did not interact with the post, Pippa soon realised what had happened.

"That gurl just tagged her mate click her and check her couver picture [sic]," Pippa commented, noting that Matt's girlfriend had romantic pictures with Matt on her Facebook profile.

"Not my fault he told me he was single wouldnt of gone there obviously if i knew he had a gf [sic]," she added.

While Pippa expressed that she felt "like a nob [sic]", many of the commenters who viewed the post stressed that it wasn't her fault.

"[At] least he has been found out for what he really is," one wrote.

"His girlfriends got a lucky escape by the sounds of it [sic]."
