Serbian World No.1 Novak Djokovic delighted his fans in the aftermath of his  6-4, 6-1, 6-2 demolition of Andreas Haider-Maurer in New York on Wednesday night (Thursday AEST) with a display anyone's dad would be proud of.

Speaking on court to television reporters after the match, he singled out one superfan in the crowd for special praise.

"He has done well, you know. He entertained the crowd. It was phenomenal. I think I saw him ... the first time five or six years ago. Thanks for dancing!".

Not one to leave early, 'professional fan' Cameron Hughes did not shy away from an opportunity to bust his way on court with his idol.

Leaping over the barrier, the overjoyed Hughes high-tenned Djokovic, before, as the commentator put it, "dad dancing" his way into the highlights reel. If that wasn't enough, the Canadian then encouraged the champion to pull on an 'I love New York' tee-shirt for good measure.

"I'm glad that he came down to the court," Djokovic said after the joyous scene.

"It was not planned. I'm happy for him. He's a true entertainer. I know him for definitely five years. Each year I see him in one of my matches, dancing, taking down the layers of [his] T-shirts."

"You know, it never gets old," Djokovic said. "It's always good to see him dance, perform. He gets the crowd going in the night session in Arthur Ashe [Stadium], which is always very unique for players and for fans."

Hughes' YouTube profile describes him as "the Ultimate Sports Entertainer wowing crowds at the US OPEN TENNIS, Olympics, NBA, NHL, AHL, ECHL, CHL, Cricket in Barbados and many many more events around the Globe."

His mission statement? Simply to "spread the cheer."
