RUGBY LEAGUE: Promising young footballer Tre Williams has been given a leg up by Queanbeyan City Council and his Canberra Raiders Cup team the Queanbeyan Roos to help him travel to Brisbane later this month to play in the Australian Schoolboys team against New Zealand.

Queanbeyan City Council contributed $300 via the sports assistance scheme and the Roos contributed a further $1000.
The competition was almost scrapped after the New Zealand team struggled to come up with funding, but have since sought assistance and will be good to go in a few weeks.
"I'm really looking forward to playing for Australia," Williams said.
The 17-year-old played at the Roos as a junior before being selected for the Raiders NYC under 20s competition and Queanbeyan general manager Leigh Kiely said the club could not be more proud of him.
"He's a very good player- he shows a lot of promise. It's a credit to the junior community and previous coaches he's had," he said.
"He's doing the club proud- hopefully he can go all the way. We as a club would love to see him go all the way and make it to the NRL."
