We've barely had a chance to properly digest our Botrytis Cinerea dessert from Monday night's MasterChef finale, and already two more cooking shows are hours away from premiering on our television screens.

Keen to capitalise on our fascination with cooking programs, Channel Seven launches Restaurant Revolution on Tuesday night while Channel Nine pits The Hotplate against it in the same 7.30pm timeslot.

Both shows are new formats and are sure to have many people at home scratching their heads.

We take a look at the two cooking programs to help you decide what to watch.

Restaurant Revolution

Running in the My Kitchen Rules off-season, Restaurant Revolution is part MKR, part Shark Tank and part The Block.

Contestants establish pop-up restaurants built out of shipping containers in each capital city and must manage every aspect of running them: from staff, to menus, to budgets and restaurant fit-outs.

Each week, contestants are judged on their food, service and profit margins by a panel of experts, and the winner is promised $250,000 to establish their own restaurant.

Perhaps the best part of Restaurant Revolution is that anyone from the public is able to eat in the restaurants, experience them and leave feedback.

What's also interesting is that it's not a level playing field. The Adelaide team is a family of three chefs and a professional cook, while Sydney's contestant is a 22-year-old one-man band.

Teams are also given different cash sums at the start of the show depending on the strength of their business pitches.

Rockpool chef Neil Perry and The Australian's food editor John Lethlean will serve among Restaurant Revolution's panel of experts and the show is hosted by Adelaide chef Jock Zonfrillo.

The Hotplate

The Hotplate's biggest selling feature? Tom Parker Bowles.

The food critic son of the Duchess of Cornwall will serve as one of the judges on this My Kitchen Rules-style program alongside Estelle Bistro chef Scott Pickett.

The premise is almost identical to MKR, but will see teams of restaurateurs, instead of amateurs, go head-to-head each week as they dine at each other's restaurants and judge them according to their food.

The winners will walk away with $100,000.

The Hotplate is also sure to manufacture some MKR-style catfights, with a "volatile" mother and daughter duo from Perth in the mix, alongside a take-no-prisoners gay couple.

Contestants to look out for include Sydney's adorable father and son team and Victoria's knockabout crayfish queens Lozz and Nols.

"This is about helping good restaurants becoming great restaurants," Bowles says.
