The local organ-isation, in conjunction with Queanbeyan City Council, will hold a planting session at Bicentennial Park on Sunday, July 26.
"[We] will be planting at Rex Cross Lookout (the flagpole hill) with various Australian plants to make a garden attractive to birds and to people," Quean-beyan Landcare's Tom Baker said.
In the past two years, the two organisations have planted about 1000 trees for National Tree Day with plantings undertaken at The Scar and Buttles Creek. Council has also donated 50 plants per year to each local school.
Mr Baker said Queanbeyan Landcare has worked to promote the survival of remnant woodland species and native grasses within Bicentennial Park.
A small group of volunteers have also been proactive in reducing weed infest-ation by removing woody weeds from the park and with grant money purchase herbicide, equipment and plants to enable further work to be done.
Queanbeyan City Council is committed to a 10,000 Trees Program and since the beginning of the program in 2009, more than 8,000 new trees and shrubs have been planted.
Queanbeyan Nat-ional Tree Day planting will be held at Bicentennial Park on Sunday, July 26 from 9.30am.
A free barbecue lunch will be provided on the day.
