Now, another eight years on, she's setting her sights on becoming an international-level netballer.

The Queanbeyan teenager is tracking nicely in her quest to one day represent the world champion Australian Diamonds.

In April, she finished leading goal-scorer among all players at the Australian under 17s netball championships while representing the ACT.

Her haul of 114 goals at a strike rate of 85 per cent was irresistible to the selectors' eyes.

The Merici College student earned a call-up to an Australian training camp at the AIS in May.

Those sessions gave Clough an opportunity to fine-tune aspects of her game and re-assess goals.

"It definitely improved the variety in my game," she said.

"Hopefully, fingers crossed, I'll get another chance at nationals next year and make the Australian squad again.

"The dream is definitely to play for the Diamonds at an elite level."

Releasing that ach-ievement rests on abiding to a straightforward albeit challenging formula.

Clough must continue to play well locally and at State League level, keep in sight of representative selectors and attract attention from pro-fessional franchises.

"I'll need to keep playing well, hopefully get into the ANL [Australian Netball League], then onto the ANZ Championship and go from there," she explained.

By all rights, the year 11 school student by day should not be a netballer.

Her rise from young Australian rules football fanatic to national netball representative would never have eventuated were it not for her parents' decision-making.

"I remember getting into netball, actually," she continued.

"I was eight and I wanted to play football, but AFL and netball were on the same note sent home from school.

"Mum and Dad didn't want me playing football, so they signed me up for netball. I've loved it ever since."

That's not the only change-up Clough's faced.

Although climbing through the junior ranks as an esteemed goal shooter, Clough has become accustomed to wearing the GA bib.
