QUEANBEYAN City Council is harnessing the power of social media with council decisions to be live tweeted during council meetings.
A council staff member will tweet council decisions to Twitter and Facebook using the #QCClive hashtag.
According to the council report, tweets would only contain information about the decision, not the debate and would not say which councillors voted which way.
The first council meeting to be live tweeted will be the next Ordinary Council Meeting on July 22.
The council's decision came on the back of a query about live streaming council meetings via the Queanbeyan City website.
Councillors agreed live streaming was not of benefit at the moment with new equipment capable of recording the meetings costing upwards of $70,000.
Councillors voted for the newly-elected council to revisit the concept of live streaming in 2016.
Summer Sunset Markets reviewed
QUEANBEYAN City Council will review the delivery of the annual Summer Sunset Markets following falling support for the market in 2014-15.
An average of 20 stallholders attended each of the five markets held at the Bicentennial Hall courtyard.
Stallholders as well as the number of markets have been on the decline with 14 markets held in 2009 compared to the five in the last period.
The review will look at redesigning and repositing the Summer Sunset Market to the soon to be upgraded Riverfront/Queen Elizabeth Park area.
CCTV cameras for Crawford St
EIGHT CCTV cameras will soon operate in the Queanbeyan CBD after Council approved a numberof documents and procedures for the use of the cameras.
Council received funding from the Federal Government's Safer Suburbs Taxi Scheme to install the cameras near the Crawford St taxi rank.
In total, eight cameras have been installed near the taxi rank and will monitor activity in the area.
The cameras will provide a live feed to the Queanbeyan Police Station and footage will be recorded and stored by Council. Access to recorded material will be facilitated by Council and will only take place if required by Police, is necessary for legal proceedings or any other lawful requirement.
The CCTV cameras will be made operational as soon as possible.
