But how did it come to be that the budding Stradbroke hero - photo finished out of winning last year - is not only the best, but only hope Queensland can muster in the $2 million sprint at Doomben on Saturday?

"And he's rising nine," Gollan said. "It tells you where we're at at the moment.

"You only have to look at the yearling sales, the overseas horses brought in ... where do they all go? They don't come here to Brisbane.

"When we go away to carnivals and race well with our horses, we're usually punching well above our weight. And the Sydney stables are getting a lot of these well-bred and well-credentialled youngsters into their yard each year and they're doing the job.

"We've got a bit of work to do and we've got to get ourselves going so our horses are ultra competitive in our own carnival. At the moment, from this year's results, we've got a bit of a way to go."

The group 1 scoreboard this winter carnival makes pleasant viewing - at least if you're supporting those south of the Tweed.

Chris Waller (two), Gai Waterhouse and the combination of the Peter and Paul Snowden training partnership have scooped all four majors thus far - and there promises to be more when the Stradbroke, Queensland Derby and JJ Atkins are staged at Doomben on Saturday.

Temple Of Boom, which was prominent when Queensland horses were three of the first four home in the Stradbroke last year, has slowly worked his way to full fitness this campaign.

Having skipped the autumn this year, Temple Of Boom was plagued by a wide barrier in the Doomben 10,000 and Gollan is praying for a favourable alley on Wednesday.

"He owes me nothing and it would be amazing [to win it]," Gollan said. "We understand how hard it is because history is against us with his age and things like that.

"Records are broken every year in one way or another, so who knows? I feel he's going great and I wouldn't swap him this year and I said the same last year. He just needs luck in running."

Favourite Lumosty is in danger of being stranded as a first emergency with trainer Robert Smerdon sweating on either New Zealander El Roca or Robbie Laing's Lord Of The Sky being a non acceptor when the field is drawn on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the boards of all three codes of racing in Queensland - as well as Racing Queensland's All Codes Racing Industry Board - were abolished on Tuesday after Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk responded to a report tabled by greyhound racing inquiry commissioner Alan MacSporran QC only 24 hours earlier.

RQ chief executive officer Darren Condon was also stood down and has five days to respond to a show cause notice why he should be spared the axe.

"Today we are starting with a clean slate," Palaszczuk told Queensland parliament.

Elsewhere, Queensland trainer Glen Baker has been disqualified for two years on a cobalt-related charge after French Lesson returned elevated levels of the drug after his win at Doomben on January 31.
