Dubbo scored the first few baskets, Queanbeyan passes went astray and turnovers were rife, but the home side kicked into gear and soon hit the scoreboard.

By halftime the Yowies had stretched the margin out to 15, giving Ball the opportunity to give junior players a run.

"I put our juniors on and they performed well, we relied on them a lot more in the second half," Ball said.

"Josh Rowcliffe did a good job with 10 points, Robbie Ball was one of the better defensive players out there- he got a lot of steals and was involved in every play.

"Jeff [Dowdell] was once again the key, he has an amazing basketball mind. He only played about half of the game, but still managed to top score for us with 18 points."

The Yowies were up by 28 points at three-quarter time and cruised to a 87 to 54 victory for their fourth win of the season.

Ball said the match allowed Queanbeyan to work on their offensive and defensive plays in preparation for the Liverpool Spartans on Sunday at the Queanbeyan Basketball Centre.

"[Dubbo] did a lot of good stuff too- they were quite competitive so it enabled us to work on a lot of things," he said.

"We mixed up our defence a bit to keep them guessing and make sure our positional defence and transitional play was spot on. And we applied various offences which we could fine tune.

"We have to work exceptionally hard when we're up against the harder teams, so we can't take any teams lightly.

"The key [against Liverpool] is definitely going to be our defence, cutting down their options and making the most of our opportunities on transition."
