The artist's love of colour was evident as friends and family enjoyed his prolific collection of works with 93 on display.
Mr Shinnick's wife and daughter, Maree and Sara, organised the exhibition in honour of his memory.
Sara said it was 'surreal' to see exhibition come to fruition.
"It's a really big deal for us to finally get here," she said.
"It's exciting. It's nice to see [the artworks] up and for people to appreciate it. We want them to be in people's homes and for people to enjoy them because that's what he did them for.
"There's a lot in there that I found really hard to put on the walls to share because I really love them but at the same time we've kept some that mean a lot to us but they were designed to be shared."
Mr Shinnick was self-taught artist who was a late comer to art, picking up a brush and painting his first piece in 1986.
His work was quite varied but always made good use of colours and textures.
"There's not one particular style that he does - there's expressionist, impressionist and all of those types," Sara said.
"He does a little bit of everything...he never planned anything he did. He used to just go with what he felt and I think that comes through."
n Graham Shinnick's 'In My Eyes' will be displayed at The Q Exhibition Space until May 2.
