Anika Stanford had a coffee with Leeton mayor Paul Maytom on Thursday and said she was suffering grief and shock since her son, Vincent, was arrested and charged with killing Ms Scott.

She asked Cr Maytom to pass on her condolences to the families of Ms Scott and her fiance, Aaron Leeson-Woolley, who will gather on Wednesday for a funeral at the Eugowra function centre where the young couple were due to wed on April 11.

Leeton business owners will close at 1pm on Wednesday and join a public gathering in Mountford Park to coincide with the private memorial at Eugowra, near the Scott family's home town of Canowindra.

"Obviously, she herself is traumatised by this whole incident too," Cr Maytom said after speaking to Ms Stanford.

"I think it was a good thing to let her know we are there for her and give her the opportunity to talk to someone. She expressed her condolences on behalf of her family to Stephanie's and to Aaron's families."

Ms Stanford, a nurse who moved to Leeton 14 months ago with two of her three adult sons, went into hiding at a local motel with eldest son, Luke, as Leeton grieved for the loss of the high school teacher.

The family have spent hours helping detectives and provided information about family camping trips in Cocoporra National Park, where police found Ms Scott's body, five days after she was allegedly murdered on Easter Sunday.

Mrs Stanford was wracked with grief, traumatised and feeling isolated, Cr Maytom said.

"She was locked away to a degree and didn't know how to manage the situation," he said.

She took up an offer from Cr Maytom and the Salvation Army to sit down for a coffee and a chat.

"I simply felt that she needed someone to actually talk with," he said.

"It has helped her and helped us as a community. Many people have expressed concern that she may have just felt completely isolated and simply meeting with her has given her a better feeling knowing that, yes, we are extremely traumatised by the events in our town but we also understand that she, being the mother of the accused, is not guilty."

Cr Maytom said he would pass on the condolences at the funeral, if it was appropriate.

Hundreds of family and friends will gather at the Eat Your Greens function centre in Eugowra at 1pm on Wednesday, 11 days after Ms Scott and Mr Leeson-Woolley were due to get married at the picturesque country venue.

Several school teachers from Leeton High School will attend, a day after students returned for what the school said would be "the most difficult week of our lives".

Seventeen counsellors were rostered on at the school on Tuesday as Ms Scott's sister, Robyn, told students that "teaching all you amazing students and seeing your smiling faces" was what she loved.

"You are the ones who made her want to be the most amazing teacher, friend and person she could be," she posted on the school's Facebook page.

A Department of Education spokesman said counselling will continue to be available at the school on Wednesday and all staff and students will attend the Leeton service.
