The Eagles kicked nine of the last 10 goals of the game, including the final five, after they were dominated by the Dockers in the first half. The margin could have and should have been so much bigger.

It blew out to 79 points just seven minutes into the third term, but the intensity very quickly went out of the game after that. Mark LeCras was the biggest benefactor of the Eagles resurgence, kicking five goals in that period that started at the 13-minute mark of the third term. But the Dockers did enough to join only Adelaide and Sydney to stay unbeaten teams after three rounds. They host the Swans next weekend.

However, they did blow a chance to beat their biggest win over the Eagles, 75 points, set in 2008.

West Coast were also able to boot three consecutive goals late in the third to get the margin back to an even 10 goals at the final break.

But in the first half, the Eagles were unable to provide the run that they did against Carlton in round 2 – and the delivery to Josh Kennedy.

Kennedy kicked 10 goals against the Blues the week before but was held to only one by Luke McPharlin on Sunday, which came at the 14 minute mark of the final term.

After stunning the crowd in Geelong last week, Fremantle was able to shut out the hostile West Coast faithful with a nine goal opening term on Sunday.

The Dockers had four goals after just 10 minutes. West Coast had gone forward just once – only for Matt Priddis to spray his left-foot attempt through for a behind.

The Eagles kicked just 0.4 in the first quarter and the margin at the break was 52 points.

The Dockers equalled their highest first term, with 9.2 from 20 entries into their attacking 50m area. They were ruthless.

They had 36 more possessions in the opening quarter; with Lachie Neale, Nat Fyfe and Stephen Hill cutting holes through the Eagles midfield. Fyfe and Neale kicked two goals each before quarter time.

As well as holding an early 43-27 advantage in contested possessions, Fremantle also led 22-13 in the tackle count. Hill kicked his third goal five minutes into the second term and the margin was out to 65 points and the result of the game was beyond doubt.

West Coat's first goal came a minute later, earned when Nic Naitanui tackled Michael Johnson in his own goal square.

Sharrod Wellingham backed up a couple of minutes later with a terrific snap from deep inside the forward pocket. But those two passages of player were the only highlights for West Coast in an embarrassing opening half of football.

The Western Derby ledger sits at 21-20 in favour of the Eagles, but Fremantle has now won 15 of the past 19, including the past six.

Neale has emerged as a classy midfielder in a team that already boasts Hill, Mundy, Fyfe and Michael Barlow. Two of his goals in the first half came from his clever work at stoppages, including one with a 50m torpedo punt snap.

The Eagles could have trailed by more earlier in the contest if not for defender Jeremy McGovern.  There were concerns for him midway through the second term when he limped from the ground.

He returned after half-time, bit was subbed out of the game late in the third quarter. West Coast travel to the Gabba next week to play Brisbane.
